A Flower

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

I did this tutorial the other day and thought I would share it with you all also!

I was trying to make a flower Daisy Girl Aimee had showed us but I didn’t have the directions in front of me and this one actually ended up nothing like hers, but I still loved it!

You’ll need a circle punch (you pick the size, mine was 1 3/4″ I think) and a piece of PP.

Punch out 7 circles.

Then pleat one of the circles. I kinda folded them in half and then folded each half back down a bit…like this:

Do this for each of the circles.

Thread a piece of thread or embroidery floss through the tip of each petal.  (I’m sure you could also use a strong liquid glue but I didn’t want the mess or the extra time of having to hold it together while it set.)

Once you have each petal on the thread run it back through them all the same way again pulling it tight so they’re in a circle.

Finally you can finish it off however you like. A button, another flower, or leave it as is. For my flower I layered two more flowers on top.

that’s it!  Easypeasy!

Up-lifting

Scraplifting that is!  My challenge for Nov. is to checkout the galleries of the Daisy Girls (here) and pick one to lift.  There is soooo much inspiration it’s hard to choose.

I finally settled on this one using the sold out August kit by Daisy Girl Aimee Kidd:

and here’s my take using the November kit:

so what are you waiting for?  Come play along and be sure to upload your work to the gallery before the end of the month for a chance at a RAK.

BLOOM of the WEEK!

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The Bloom of the Week recognition goes to….  Scrappin in AK!  Her eye catching LO was inspired by Julie’s November sketch and she rocked it.  The colors really POP, the stitched circle is awesome, and I love the fussy cut flower along the side.  Of course, that gorgeous smiling face just makes me happy looking at it.  CONGRATULATIONS!  Thank you for sharing your work with us.

There is still plenty of time left in November to take part in Color Me Daisy’s November Sketch Challenge. Have you seen Julie Bonner’s AMAZING sketch? Seriously, lots of fun details and plenty of room to play and make it your own. Here is Julie’s sketch:

And here is my take on the sketch:

Origami paper flower tutorial

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I love to make my own homemade flowers as I feel it gives my pages and cards more of an artistic feel to them. Today I’m going to show you how to make one of my “go to” flowers. It really is simple once you get the feel of how to fold the petals! So are you ready to get started? Here is a sample of a card that I created with the Nov kit.

card

First thing to do is pick out a piece of pattern paper that you’d like to have for the flower. Punch or cut out 6 circle all the same size of the pattern cardstock and 1 more circle from a heavier cardstock to mount the flower petals on. I’ve used 2″ circles for my flowers which makes the completed flower 2 1/2″. Once you have your circles ready, follow the folding pattern shown in picture below.

flower-petals

Add liquid glue to the cardstock circle and add petals.

Decorate your flower any way you’d like and add to a layout or a card. Easy peasy! Hope that you all loved this small tutorial and try this paper folding technique.

November Fabric and Sewing Challenge

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Hi there everyone! This is my first time blogging here at the Color Me Daisy blog and I will be here all week! For my first post, I wanted to invite you all to take part in my November challenge. The fabulous November Autumn Splendor Color Me Daisy kit included some gorgeous fabric and I wanted to be sure to use it on my projects so my challenge to you is to use fabric AND sewing on a layout (or card or any other project for that matter!). You can use a sewing machine or stitch by hand. On this layout, I did a little of both.

rk-thats-just-how-we-roll

I hand stitched to add a pop of orange. Then a took a strip of fabric and ran it through the machine. I used a loose zig zag stitch and as I was passing the fabric through the machine, I folded some over to give it a ruffled and very textured look.

Fabric and stitching are great ways to add texture and a unique homemade look to your projects. If you take the challenge, be sure to upload it to the gallery and put it in the challenge thread. And if you have other great ways to use fabric and stitching on projects please share them here!

Thanks for stopping by.
